Marlon is currently heading out to open mics for fun, to keep up his vocals chops and get out there and let people know that his CD is available NOW! He frequents The Point Pub on Sunday nights and Gallaghers Coffee house on Thursday's. (Both are in Port Moody, BC, Canada)
I love to sing. Always have, always will. That much I know for sure. I swear it must be
in my blood. If you asked any of my friends from school they'd tell you I was the guy in the back corner either tapping my pencils (using them as drum sticks) on my desk or singing. Always singing.
I started out singing songs in front of my family. Didn't most of us do that? When we were about 11 years old, my cousin Jim & I would gather up my brother Joel & his sister Colleen and we would get a whole band going for some of our family shows. Shortly after that Jim & I wrote our first and only song (he's now an accountant). I think it was called School Sucks... LOL! Go figure. I still remember most of it and have the Lyrics kickin' around somewhere.
I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My Dad owned a Chevron in Coquitlam, BC while I was growing up. I started working there when I was 11, and continued until I was 19. Although I began singing at 2, this was where my singing days really took off. I would grab an air hose and hold it on top of the shop broom as if it were my Mic & Cable. I would start wailing away anything that I was listening to at the time, but one day I got caught singing probably the worst song you could imagine (if someone was watching you that is)... Samantha Fox's "Touch Me". Looking back on it, it's kind of funny really. A drummer in a local band was getting gas, got out of his car and heard singing in the distance. He walked up to the service garage doors, watched for a bit and then said "Hey, do you want to be in a band?" I stopped and thought to myself, this guy can't be serious? I just said "sure!"
After many cancelled tryouts for the band, we finally jammed at Bruce's (bass player at the time) house a couple weeks later. They gave me this crappy Radio Shack microphone that was plugged into an even crappier Traynor guitar amp. I remember it like it was yesterday. The first song was Bryan Adams' "Hidin' From Love" and while I sang the first line: "I'm ridin' in the middle, half way into you" I looked over at Mike and the smile on his face said it all. The song ended and Mike said "You're in!"
I've wanted to do this since I was 15 and it's been one hell of a ride writing for my CD: Late Day Sun. While putting it all together I decided on the 10 songs that I think are the best, and mean the most to me. Enjoy the music!
Thanks for reading. See you on the road soon!
